The house is located in the heart of the of Pocitos neighborhood, a particularly dense area of the capital city of Montevideo, where many modern buildings have replaced the houses built in the early 20th century, which threatens the privacy of single-level homes.
The challenge to redesign a house from 1930 located in the heart of this urban city block was attractive to the Architect/owner. She knew how to maximize the two unique virtues of such a property. The project centered around a large courtyard with a old big tree that provides shade and privacy.
The original spatial partition of the two-level house was characterized by small rooms which were replaced by spatial integration on both levels that open into the background.
The house is accessed through a foyer integrated with the rest of the social space, kitchen, living room, dining room and home office of the first level, from which you access the stairs to the master suite with a dressing room and bathroom.
In the living room, a large fireplace is the central point, beyond which are views into the garden.
The intermediate wall demolition and structural reinforcement of the original construction enabled the conversion of an aging house into a haven of incredible quality and functional space.
